I think your topic is very interesting. I didn’t know diversity studies was an area of concentration! Sounds like something I would have been interested in. I definitely would like to read your final paper to learn more about the topic.

This topic sounds like a fun one to research! I think that if you focus on one specific category it will be easy for you to get the information onto the paper. I think that picking gender as your topic would be interesting to see the results. Many people say women like to shop more but I wonder if that’s the case. Also how do they change their marketing different between the sexes.

This sounds like it will be a great topic to use. If your worried your paper will be too broad, choosing to look at gender, class or race instead of all three might help.

The topic may be a little broad but I think that when it is complete the paper will be very informative and interesting, you seem very passionate about your interests. Too narrow down the topic something I considered was looking at the role the environment plays in personality and creativity. This way you can still use your personality psyc class to help, or even child psyc if you’ve taken it. Comparing creativity in adults with how much creativity was emphasized throughout their childhood would be a more narrow topic. You could also look at how the right side of the brain effects creativity and how much emphasis was put on expanding creativity and utilizing that side of the brain as a child.

This is definitely a good topic, and would be very interesting to read. I agree that this is a problem in the United States and people tend to look the other way on this issue rather than trying to address the real problem because race, class and gender are very touchy subjects for people to deal with. Although people say that this has improved over time, looking into hidden racism, or sexism in the workplace would be interesting because while many feel things are getting better it may be that they are just being disguised.

I like the topic and although it is controversial, I would stick with it. Usually if something is controversial then it is going to be interesting to the reader and attract a wide range of reader reactions. When I read your topic the movie the green mile comes to mind, I’m sure that in the past race had a lot to do with who was convicted,and it is sad that this seems to still be the case. Something I’ve heard about but may be too broad for your paper, are the laws that are in effect can be prejudice towards a race or class. If you are looking for someone to help you with some of your ideas Dr. Lily from the sociology department teaches a class specifically concerning criminal justice and he may be able to give you some starting points.

I think that this is an interesting topic and that you should be able to use a lot of information from the books we read this semester. If you are concerned that your topic is too broad one option might be too not explore what kind of perspectives result from exclusively social science based influence versus business oriented teachings. Instead just concentrate on the classes types and what they choose, this type of information could be very useful to communities and businesses.

I really like this topic and think that it would be very interesting to its readers, especially women. I can’t think of any literature of the top of my head, but the movie pirates of the Caribbean and titanic comes to mind were the ladies are dressed in tight corsets and have baskets on the backs of the dresses to pop out the rear end. At that time that seems to be what was considered beautiful. As drodas insinuated above discussing how the image of beauty seems to be controlled by what is considered rich or upper class at the time would be very interesting. Also talking about different cultures view of beauty could be interesting. As an example, the stereotype that black men see larger women as beautiful.

I think this is a very good topic and many people would be interested in the results that you conclude. If this research were to suggest that gender does in fact play a role, then it could be very important information for schools and they way children learn. As Dr. Krouse said I think it would be a good idea to narrow it down to a specific age range. I am taking lifespan development psychology right now and something that we discussed was males and females and the way that they begin to learn and their strengths and weakness as young children. For example, when boys are better than girls at math in younger years because of faster development in certain areas, and girls are better at recognizing certain details. I would suggest going to the library and looking for a lifespan textbook, I think it could definitely have some important information for your paper.

This is a great topic to choose for the final paper. I think it would be interesting to pick only one of the three categories - race, gender or social class to narrow your topic down. If you do this way, I think it would be interesting to compare the political parties and which social class usually follows them and then explain why this is and if it has changed throughout history. Just an option. Hope this is helpful.
